Trains only take you to the station People only take advantage I don't need no trains and I sure don't need no people to go looking for my zero I went to work and learned myself some manners I went to school and read myself some books I chew with my mouth closed and I know all about Abe lincoln but I'm still looking for my freedom I dreamed that i was turned into a highway I fell in love with a sky blue Cadillac I invited her along but she rolled on down the track to go looking for her zero I met a girl who smiled pretty eyed i cleaned out the bottles in my car I tried to make her laugh and invited her along To go looking for our zero Three they say is a crowd Two is a couple too many One is the loneliest number that you ever knew that's why I'm looking for my zero I look with my ears and with my nose I look with my skin and with my tongue i look with my hands, but I see in my heart My need to zero in on zero

In the city that I live in there's a kind of blues that no one talks about some say the funny smell on the new moon is a crematorium nut i have my doubts the buses don't get cleaner when it rains at night i like to hear the squealing trains the pizza ain't as good as in new york and i can't eat the chili with a fork the art museum is high upon the hill and the broke folk at the bottom ain't seen it still me i'm just like you me i'm just like you me i'm just like you a friendly ghost in a town that's a pretty good host in the city that i live in the pretty girls all smile but they don't look me in the eye there's a discount movie on Tuesday but there really ain't much live music in july the sports fans cry to tvs in the bars folks don't seem to drive fast in their cars you can't get a haircut on a sunday the criminals don't know how much their guns weigh liberty is repaved every third year and the dream of a beach sunset is just a grey smear me i'm just like you me i'm just like you me i'm just like you a friendly ghost in a town that's a pretty good host in the city that i live in there's a kind of blues that no one talks about some say it's not such a good idea to swim in the creek but there's probably still a good chance to get a ticket for the weekend the christmas isn't white the river's brown the gravediggers never sport a frown the soap factory employs over half the town the poetg and the preachers got to prance around like clowns the mimes have to speak up or step down and everyone's too square to buy another round me i'm just like you me i'm just like you me i'm just like you a friendly ghost in a town that's a pretty good host

I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in I found my mind in a brown paper bag within I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high I tore my mind on a jagged sky I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in I got up so tight I couldn't unwind I saw so much I broke my mind I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind Eight miles outta Memphis and I got no spare Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

When everything falls apart like it often will do There are moments that remind us of the love that can shine through We don’t know yet if we have a reservation for two But I’ll always remember fondly this perfect night with you Singing Blue Moon under the blue moon, picking grass out of your hair Making out behind the beer joint, laying by the rail The trains they made the earth shake, your lips made me derail It was a snapshot of a fairy tale And I don’t think that I believe those stories About loves that don’t ever decline From what I’ve seen I’d like to know more about you Find our next perfect moment in time Like singing Blue Moon under the blue moon, picking grass out of your hair Making out behind the beer joint, laying by the rail The trains they made the earth shake, your lips made me derail It was a snapshot of a fairy tale It seems to me it’s hard to see the final outcome When there’s so much to being in love I know that nights like this don’t happen very often I hope it means we stand a chance to rise above Singing Blue Moon under the blue moon, picking grass out of your hair Making out behind the beer joint, laying by the rail The trains they made the earth shake, your lips made me derail It was a snapshot of a fairy tale Oh it was a snapshot of a fairy tale Oh this is a snapshot of a fairy tale

I often think about the way that I feel when you’re with me There’s been a change inside you know that everyone else can see I still recall a couple years ago the very first time we met You looked so fine reading a magazine, coffee and cigarettes The sun shined down your hair illuminated, wearing that sexy dress Your smile pierced through me, but I kept my cool and laid it down to rest ‘Cause I was seeing someone else at the time I wasn’t trying to be out of line But now I’m Ready to Cross that line ‘Cause it’s time, time I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To put my cards on the table I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To fall in love with you Some time has passed, I never thought I would see your face again I thought that feeling was the kind a just a blowing in the wind Then there you were ordering coffee with a smile bigger than your face I knew we had to get together at another time and place For several weeks it seemed I turn around and there you were again You asked how come you never hollered at me all the way back when ‘Cause I was seeing someone else at the time I wasn’t trying to be out of line But now I’m Ready to Cross that line ‘Cause it’s time, time I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To put my cards on the table I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To fall in love with you Love with you I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To put my cards on the table I’m ready – I’m ready and willing Ready, willing, and able To fall in love with you

about

Kris Brown Austin, Texas

For years Kris Brown’s music traveled the astral plane of American musical styles, drawing inspiration from John Hurt to Sun Ra. In recent years, his musical personalities have coalesced into a unified opium-like haze of swampy folkadelica. Whitey on the Moon, Kris’s trio, specializes in the quieter part of the spectrum and seeks a freer approach to accompaniment. ... more
